Series #1

How Does Learning Really Happen?

This series is perfect for educators working directly with children. The series takes a thoughtful approach to respond to educators at any place in their play based, emergent curriculum journey. It is perfect for educators who want to push their thinking further and think outside of the box.

Throughout the six months, participants will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of virtual learning modules through a social constructivist lens. We will examine theories, paradigms and discourses that exist within the Early Learning Sector.

Through this work we will hold a strong image of educators that see themselves as optimistic critical thinkers. This series will have a particular focus on digging deeper into pedagogies.

There will be an emphasis on what this generates in their practice and how this changes the conditions for their work.

Topics will include: Emergent pedagogies, Image of child, Image of the educator, Examining environments, and Ethical pedagogy with a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Through this course, I have transferred more of my textbook knowledge into practice and gained a better understanding of "How does learning happen?" and the emerging curriculum in a much deeper way. The most obvious change is that I no longer think of the curriculum as something that needs to be planned by educators and participated in by children. Instead, it can happen anywhere at any time, like providing tools for a child who wants to play in the sand or an art activity derived from a book. And I've learned to step back and look more at the children's interests and provide them with what they need rather than what I think will help them develop. It took me some time to learn this in the textbook and to actually realize

Series #2

How Can I be a Leader While Being a Supervisor?

Were you a really great ECE and now you are in a leadership position and not sure where to start?!

We see this happen time and time again in the early years sector and want to empower leaders to cultivate thriving teams. We believe that the work that leaders take up with educators directly relates to the quality of programs that will be offered to children.

If we can empower leaders, they can empower educators who can empower children.

Participants will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of virtual learning encounters through a social constructivist lens. We will examine the paradigms and discourses that contribute to our beliefs around leadership in the early learning sector. We will think alongside leaders, examine new perspectives, and reflect on our aspirations in Early Years Programs.

Through this cyclical model participants will have the opportunity to reflect, discuss, challenge and practice new skills.

Topics will include: Leading From Values and Intention, Cultivating Culture, Understanding Accountability and Compliance, and Pedagogical Leadership.
